Refugee Connect
About This Business
At Refugee Connect, we believe refugees and people seeking asylum should be empowered. We treat them like a mate, help them do things for themselves and find other mates so they don’t become dependent on us. And yes, there is a system, the Refugee Connect Friendship Model.
People who agree with this help by making tax-deductible donations, praying and volunteering.
Ken Myers is a founding director, CEO and a full-time volunteer. He is also the principal trainer for First Aid Training, a division of Refugee Connect. We provide first aid training at no charge for refugees, empowering them. Others, like teachers, rural fire brigades, dentists, builders, and electricians pay a fee which helps to fund us so that we can continue to provide services to refugees.
Since 2007, we’ve helped around 400 people from 27 countries. These people have come from Ukraine in Northern Europe, Burkina Faso in West Africa, and the most Southern and Eastern country people we have helped come from Brazil.
Recently there was a father and daughter, refugees from Latin America, who needed to move to Brisbane from Sydney for medical treatment at the PA hospital. They didn’t have any support here. We were able to help them find initial accommodation, emotional support and counselling. They found somewhere more permanent to live, and we helped find furniture and transport to get them settled.
