About This Business

Danza Montun was established in South Western Sydney in July 2011 by two Chilean Dancers Leticia & Catherine, who wanted to provide a educational, innovative and fun dance group for 2nd, 3rd Generation of Chilean Australians in their local area to connect with their heritage through the art of folkloric dance, with Leticia taking over as sole Creative & Founding Director in early 2012.

In their inaugural year, after hosting a Children’s Cueca Course, Danza Montun expanded their dance group to cater to 4th Generation Chilean Australians run by Joyce Avila, with the establishment of Montun Semilla.

The groups performed at multiple festivals each year, adding more traditional and contemporary dances to their repertoire, performing across major cities like Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

In 2018, Joyce & Rodrigo, principal dancers and teachers of the Danza Montun went on to represent Australia on the international stage and winning the Cueca Championships in Brussels, Belguim, taking their learnings and passing it onto the dancers of Danza Montun and Montun Semilla.

In 2022, Director Leticia Avila & Rodrigo Parra, made the decision to move to the Sunshine state with their young family leaving behind a legacy not only in their local community but also in their dancers.

In 2024, Danza Montun will continue their story in South East Queensland, hoping to inspire a whole new generation of dancers in their new homeland of Yarrabilba, mid point between Brisbane & Gold Coast.

Their main purpose is educate, engage and entertain audiences with their range of traditional and contemporary Chilean Folklore and instilling in their dancers the motto: Dancing from Heart.
